Company History

Dale Hardware was founded in 1955 by Bill and Elinor Smith when the area was mostly farmland. The town was called Centerville and had a population of about 8,000. It wasn’t until a year later that the city of Fremont was formed. Since then, the city and Dale Hardware have grown together.

Dale Hardware started with two employees in a 5,000 square foot space near our present location. Sixteen years later, in 1971, we moved to a 16,000 square foot space vacated by a supermarket. In the early eighties, plans and construction began on our present site. Our expansion continued in 1988 with the opening of Dale Commercial & Industrial Supply (DCIS) dedicated to helping our Business To Business customers

In 2011, we underwent a major remodel adding a beautiful outdoor nursery and an indoor drive-thru lumberyard, as well as enlarging the amount of floor space. This remodel allowed us to become twenty times the size of our original location. Today, Fremont’s population has grown to over 230,000 and the corporation has expanded its staff to over 100 employees, occupying 100,000 square feet of space. We have grown to become the largest Ace Hardware store in the Western United States.

Known for our knowledgeable neighborly advice, quality products, and seemingly endless list of special services, Dale Hardware has become the go-to destination for more than 68 years.
